Careers

The Careers Department at Alexandria Park Community is always busy working towards engaging students in work and training.

We have a very active School Based Part Time Traineeship program, available to students in Year 11 Students sign up with an employer and a training company and agree to work part time over the duration of their Years 11 and 12. At the end of Year 12 they will have completed a nationally recognised Certificate II or III in vocational training, gained paid employment and have the subject contribute 2-4 units towards their HSC.

Year 10 students are offered work experience for the end of the year and, TAFE taster courses in a variety of vocations in Term 2.

In 2021 we hope to have a Certificate I course in "Foundations for Vocational Pathways" delivered to students from Years 9 and 10. This course will be delivered at school on a Tuesday afternoon and will replace the "Program" timeslot for participating students.

We also hope to have a few visitors from Industries such as Construction, Horticulture and I.T. deliver one day workshops to interested students.

A Careers Day is scheduled for students in June and will be hosted by John Holland Construction.

The Careers Department is also responsible for supporting students with their university applications. Visits from universities to talk to Year 12 have already been scheduled, as is an excursion for students to University of Sydney in September.

Resume writing, USI numbers, Tax file numbers and scholarship applications are also some of my responsibilities.

If you would like to host a work experience for a student or you have a question for the Careers Department, don't hesitate to contact me, Patricia Betar, via the school email.
