Selective & Opportunity classes

selective stream

Alexandria Park Community School caters for the needs of gifted and talented students.

The school has Opportunity Classes in Year 5 and Year 6 as well as a Selective Stream in Year 7 to Year 10 to cater specifically for the needs of the more capable students.

Research shows that capable students benefit significantly from being in a selective class. Not only do students have the opportunity to work with students of similar talents and abilities, they also enjoy challenging and more complex work.

Entry into a selective class is based on information gathered from primary schools plus a test of literacy, numeracy and writing skills which is sat in September each year. Parents may choose to provide additional information about their child's achievements, including test results from other learning entities, schools and their primary school portfolio.

New attendees from Year 8 onward may apply directly to the school and undergo the school's own selection process.

Applications for entry in 2021 are now closed

Parents must apply by the due date.
