Duke of Edinburgh Award

Duke of Edinburgh

"Alexandria Park is an affiliated award unit with the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. In 2016 the school helped 20 students from Years 9 and 10 work towards completing the Award at the Bronze level.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a challenging, fun, enriching extra-curricular program whose aims are personal growth and development, self-sufficiency, adventure and independence. The Award is administered in over 150 countries and provides rich experience and skills that equip Award Holders for life beyond the school community.

The award is open to anyone aged 14-25 years and can be completed at three levels: Bronze, Silver or Gold and requires participants to engage in the following activities for 1 hour each per week, for a minimum of 3 months (duration of involvement varies at each level of the award):

-    Physical Recreation

-    Skill Development

-    Community Service

Students are also required to plan, prepare for and undertake two Adventurous Journeys (overnight hikes or camps of varying duration) as part of their completion of the Award.

Alexandria Park Community School encourages any student in Year 9 or 10 to take part in the Award.
