Absence & Attendance

Attendance and Absences

Students are expected to attend school on time every day unless legally excused. This includes days such as sports carnivals, and special school events.

Missing school means your child misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships.

School hours for K-6 (Primary School)

School starts at 9:00AM and finishes at 3:00PM

School hours for 7-12 (High School)

School starts at 8:40AM and finishes at 2:50PM

Attendance is recorded each day. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring that your child attends every day, including sports days and excursions unless your child:

- Has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or in the holidays)

- Is required to attend a recognised religious holiday

- Is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)

- Is sick, or has an infectious illness.

In the case of an unknown absence, or lateness, an automated text message will be sent out so you know that the student is listed as not at school. You can then follow the procedure below to advise of your child's reason for the absence.

If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, including arriving late or leaving early, please advise the school by either of the following:

- tell your child's teacher/year advisor or the administration assistant (office) at the school.

- Explain the reason of absence/lateness by phone

- Reply to the SMS the school sent to the main contact person

- Send an email to school advising the details

- Send a written note as soon as possible and within seven days along with medical certificate

For absences of more than 10 consecutive days an "Application for Extended Leave" needs to be obtained from the office and returned to school with a letter explaining the reason for absence, and a copy of the travel documents so that the Principal can consider the application.

If you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school regularly, you might like to talk to the Deputy Principal, Year Advisor, Assistant Principal or the school counsellor.

Late to school/leaving early

Arriving at school on time each day enables your child to be part of roll call and important routines and activities for the start of the learning day.

K-6 students who arrive late must be taken to the office by a parent or carer to be signed in before being taken to class.

High school students must sign in at the office and provide a note from parents or carer to explain their lateness.

Wherever possible, appointments should be made outside of school hours to avoid students missing important learning. Students must provide a note from parent or carer and be signed out of the office before leaving for appointments where they must be made during school hours.

Primary school students leaving early must be signed out at the office by the parent or carer authorised to collect from school.
